Noblesse des environs de Langeac, possessionnée aux Chazes. Plus anciennement on trouve sous ce nom Astorg qui vivait en 1365. Un autre personnage illustre de cette famille est Etienne qui fut inscrit à l'armorial manuscrit de 1450. Cette famille a eu des alliances importantes avec plusieurs maisons illustres. Son nom se trouve dèjà consignée dans des actes du XIIIème siècle, ainsi que celui d'une autre famille non moins recommandable, celle de la famille Grouvel. Ancienne bibliographique: Laina: Archives nobiliaire VII; Bouillet: Nobiliaire d'Auvergne; A. Tardieu: Dictionnaire ancienne famille d'Auvergne. A ce nom, on attribue un signe distinctif de noblesse représenté par le blason que l'on reproduit ci-dessous et qui confirme aussi à travers ses emblêmes, au point de vue historique et héraldique, l'assurance d'une valeur remarquable. Il est fort difficile, pour ne pas dire impossible, de réunir en faisceau toutes les tiges éparses de cette maison.
