Famiglia originaria di Milano d'onde fu esiliata al tempo dell'imper. Barbarossa (secolo XII). Fin dal 1492 fu ascritta al Decurionato di Lodi e nel 1596 ammessa al Collegio dei Nobili Giurisperiti di detta città. Un Barnaba Mainerio fu dottore Collegiato, Podestà di Milano e con Sov. Ris. del R. Tribunale Araldico della Lombardia del 15 giugno 1777 ottenne la delineazione dello stemma su detto nel Cod. Araldico; un Ignazio fu Decurione. Con Sovr. Risol. 20 novembre 1816 l'imper. d'Austria Francesco I confermò l'antica nobiltà a Gottifredo. Con Decreti del Ministro dell'Interno del Regno d'Italia (1876 e 1887) fu dichiarato competere ad Annibale-Barnaba, figlio del predetto Gottifredo, il titolo di nobile, il trattamento di Don e Donna nonchè l'arma sopra descritta, il tutto trasmissibile nei discendenti d'ambo i sessi legittimi e naturali per continuata linea retta mascolina.
