El conde Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, patricio de Rimini, conde de Montecedruzzo y Sogliano fue agregado a la nobleza romana con Senatus Consulto el 26 de agosto de 1814. Su hijo Francesco Saverio heredó de los Ripanti di Jesi el apellido y los títulos de Conde de Malviano y Metrano. Esta familia, descendiente de los antiguos príncipes de Rímini, todavía está representada en Roma por el conde Sigismondo Malatesta admitido entre los patricios reclutados en 1901. Otra rama. Antigua y noble familia originaria de Padua. Otra sucursal. Los historiadores coinciden en que la familia es originaria de Alemania y llegó a Italia en tiempos de Otón III donde se instaló a través de un vicario suplente malatesta en Romaña en el año 1000 y de ese emperador recibió muchos castillos y otras posesiones como regalo por sus virtudes, de modo que sus descendientes reinaron sobre Ancona, Fano, Pesaro, Cesena y Rimini.
