O conde Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, patrício de Rimini, conde de Montecedruzzo e Sogliano foi agregado à nobreza romana com o Senatus Consulto em 26 de agosto de 1814. Seu filho Francesco Saverio herdou dos Ripanti di Jesi o sobrenome e os títulos de conde de Malviano e Metrano. Esta família, descendente dos antigos príncipes de Rimini, ainda é representada em Roma pelo conde Sigismondo Malatesta, admitido entre os patrícios recrutados em 1901. Outro ramo. Antiga e nobre família originária de Pádua. Outro ramo. Os historiadores concordam que a família se originou na Alemanha e veio para a Itália na época de Otto III onde se estabeleceu por meio de um vigário substituto Malatesta na Romagna em 1000 e desse imperador recebeu muitos castelos e outras posses como presente por suas virtudes, de modo que seus descendentes reinaram sobre Ancona, Fano, Pesaro, Cesena e Rimini.
