Nobilissima sì in Fiorenza, come in Lucca viene disputata se sia originaria di Fiorenza, o della Città di Lucca. I moderni Istorici non sanno darne decisione alcuna, e ricorrendo a gli antichi, non numerono tra le Famiglie antiche di Fiorenza, e di primo Cerchio questa Famiglia, ma come forastiera la tralasciono; e però Lando Carducci nel suo Trattato delle Famiglie pone questa Famiglia de' M. tra le Famiglie, che fiorirno l'anno 1209. con farla descendere dalla Città di Lucca. Secondariamente si vede che questa Famiglia godeva in Lucca le prime dignità, e benche possedesse nel Mugello molti beni stabili, come li goderno molti altri Lucchesi, e tra questi vi possedevono M.di Guido di Cornalfumo, e Ugone d'Ugone di Cornalfumo; e il figliuolo di M. risiedeva in Lucca nel Consolato Dignità suprema in quella Republica, e non in Fiorenza, segno evidente, che quella Famiglia godendo la suprema Dignità in Lucca fosse
