Antica e nobile famiglia originaria di Reggio-Emilia porpagatasi, nel corso dei secoli in diverse regioni d'Italia ove si leggono alcune varianti cognominali. Nel 1115 Ubaldo era giudice del castello di Mandra. Egli fu il capostipite della potente famiglia che per lungo tempo dominò quel castello dal quale prese ili nome; Guido da Mandra è detto giudice in una certa del 1169; un altro Ubaldo e un Anselmo furono incaricati nel 1170 dai capitani di Baiso di difendere la rocca di Carpineto; Jacopo ottenne la cittadinanza di Reggio, e giurò di tenenre all'ubbidienza di quel Comune il suo castello di Mandra. Oggi non si hanno più notizie del ramo originario di questa famiglia.
