La famiglia, udinese dei Manini e quella dei Manini patrizi veneti riconoscono a comune capostipite un Manino di Firenze passato nella prima metà del trecento a Cividale e poi a Udine, con quella grande emigrazione toscana, che nei secoli XIII e XIV innondò il Friuli di mercanti, banchieri, professionisti e artigiani. Da lui i discendenti si dissero Manini, nome che a Venezia si trasformò in Manin, allor che un ramo della fam. aggregato al patriziato veneto (1651) si trasferì nella Dominante. L'invidiabile posizione finanziaria e sociale raggiunta da entrambe le linee nella loro nuova patria non poteva non eccitare le fantasie degli storici dell'epoca barocca, che, come è noto, non peccavano di eccessivi scrupoli in materia genealogica. Non deve quindi sorprendere che tal Francesco Tomasini in una sua Illustre serie dell'antichissima e nobilissima famiglia Manini abbia avuto la disinvoltura di affermare che i Manini di Firenze discendevano dalla romana Gens
