Ancienne et noble famille sicilienne, de vertu claire et ancestrale, résidant à Catane, qui s'était répandue, au cours des siècles, dans différentes régions italiennes et aussi dans le monde entier. L'origine de ce patronyme est à rechercher dans le prénom "Manninus", diminutif italien du nom médiéval d'origine germanique "Manno". En tout cas, un Francesco Mannino Dei Plachi (English), docteur en droit, acheta à la Maison Giuffrida le fief de Plachi, dont il obtint l'investiture le 20 février 1705. Il épousa, le 20 janvier 1704, à Caltanissetta, Francesca Calafato et fut le père d'Antonio , né le 11 février 1705, docteur en droit, baron de Plachi, investiture du 29 janvier 1729. Il épousa, le 27 avril 1738, Antonia Recupero et était le père de Francesco.
