A antiga e nobre família siciliana, de virtude clara e ancestral, residente em Catania, espalhou-se, ao longo dos séculos, em diferentes regiões italianas e também em todo o mundo. A origem deste sobrenome deve ser procurada no nome "Manninus", diminutivo italiano do nome medieval de origem germânica "Manno". De qualquer forma, Francesco Mannino Dei Plachi (English), doutor em direito, comprou da Casa Giuffrida a rixa de Plachi, da qual obteve investidura em 20 de fevereiro de 1705. Casou-se em 20 de janeiro de 1704 em Caltanissetta, Francesca Calafato e foi pai de Antonio , nascido em 11 de fevereiro de 1705, doutor em Direito, Barão de Plachi, para investidura em 29 de janeiro de 1729.
