Famiglia nobile di Nicosia, ove trovasi ascritta a quella maestra de' nobili. Credesi derivare da quella di Firenze e di S. Maniato; ma comecchè son differenti le armi e non abbiano serii documenti che contestino la provenienza da quella, diremo che in Sicilia si divise in due rami, l'uno abitò in Castrogiovanni e Mazzarino e si estinse nella nobilissima famigia Grimaldi di Geracello. L'altro rimase in Nicosia, da cui ne venne un Giovanni marchese di Spataro, che sposò la nobilissima dama Carolina Ventimiglia de' principi di Grammonte fermando in Palermo sua dimora. Fu il di lui avolo Giovanni barone di Spataro, al dir di Villabianca, elevato a marchese come chiaramente scorgesi dall'investitura da lui presa a 31 agosto 1761, per l'acquisto del titolo di marchese di Bonaccorso commutandone il titolo di marchese di quest'ultimo in quello del feudo di Spataro.
