Questa vecchia ed illustre famiglia friulana, ormai spenta quanto ai maschi, trae le sue origini da Como. Ed invero nel 1698 il 9 di agosto i Decurioni di questa città dichiaravano in un solenne diploma che la famiglia del Friuli aveva appartenuto alla nobiltà comense, e che ai suoi membri erano sempre state conferite le primarie cariche cittadine. Questa sorta di attestazione, rilasciate nei secoli del barocco dalle autorità, non sono, di regola, da accogliere ad occhi chiusi, perchè prive di qualsiasi controllo. Nel nostro caso, però, per ciò che riguarda la nobiltà che la famiglia avrebbe goduto in Como, possiamo ammetterla senza difficoltà, poichè già i figli, e successivamente i nipoti dei due primi venuti in Friuli, vi avevano contratto matrimoni tutti nobili, alcuni dei quali con famiglie castellane di cospicua nobiltà. Ciò lascia supporre che la famiglia godesse già di una ragguardevole posizione nel suo luogo di origine.
