In the eighteenth century this illustrious and ancient family gave Reggio many many distinct jurisconsults, and especially notaries. Giacomo Mantovani, was a collegiate notary of Reggio from 1719 to 1768, and so were his two sons, Giovan Battista, from 1739 to 1783, and Luigi, from 1752 to 1803. Other notaries were: Giuseppe, who practiced from 1765 to 1806 ; Pietro, who roged from 1784 to 1797, and Francesco, from 1796 to 1807. Don Pietro, priest, was nominated noble citizen of Reggio with chirograph of the Duke of Modena Francesco III, given in Milan on 20 December 1770, reported "in the big book red "of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia. In it it is remembered that the family had been established for two centuries in Reggio.
