Famille ancienne et très noble qui veut descendre de la noble prosapia romaine des Mancinis. Un Giacomo, en effet, passa de Rome en Sicile, en 1256, pour échapper aux persécutions de Vitelleschi, tyran de Rome. Ses descendants jouissaient de la noblesse à Syracuse, Lentini, Palerme et Catane. La famille compte des personnages illustres comme un Antonio, conseiller du roi Martino en 1402, un Giovanni, capitaine d'armes de la ville de Sciacca et un Marco, baron de Tardello, Tumminii et Ogliastro. Dans une ancienne chronique héraldique, d'ailleurs, nous avons l'honneur et le privilège de lire : « Le passage de la famille Mancini, d'autres disent Manzini, de Rome, en Sicile, son chef d'orchestre en Sicile était Giacomo Manzini monsieur Roman, qui dans la compagnie de Nicolò Mattei, Gerardo del Ponte, Pietro Santacroce, Giovanni Tidoldini, Antonio de 'Vittorij, et d'autres parents de ses opprimés par le pouvoir de Vitellesechi à eux, en
