Sulla fine del secolo XVII cominciarono a fiorire a Chiavari, a Sestri Levante e a Rapallo, i Marana, onorati e ricchi industriali e mercatanti, che la lavorazione d il commercio della seta portarono a cospicua posizione finanziaria e cittadina. Perciò nel 1725 l'11 di maggio fu ascritto alla nobiltà un Antonio Giuseppe di Giovanni Lorenzo e nel 1733 furono parimente ascritti insieme 14 individui della stessa famiglia e cioè: il R.mo Paolo Tomaso Vescovo di Ascoli e i suoi fratelli Marcantonio, Giuseppe, Angelo Filippo e Giovanni Battista; il rev. Giovanni Gerolamo e Giovanni Lorenzo di Gio. Francesco; Giuseppe Maria e Antonio di Gio. Francesco; Giuseppe Maria e Antonio di Gio. Lorenzo del detto Gio. Francesco. Appare dai documenti annessi alla pratica per l'ammissione, che i Marana erano sparsi per l'Europa a cagion dei loro traffici. Difatti vi si incontra la fede di matrimonio di Giovanni Battista con Rosa Margherita
