Esta familia es antigua y noble romana. Antonio de Petris, en el Diario 1414, cuenta cómo los oficiales capitolinos fueron elegidos para el pueblo romano con la aprobación del Papa, lo cual era algo nuevo, y entre ellos está Nicolò Marcellini. Abbate Paolo de Angelis, en la descripción de la Basílica de Santa Maria Maggiore, en lib. 3, cap. 7, dice que Muzio Marcellini, en el año 1440, era canónigo de la misma basílica. Petrone, en el Diario 1436, dice que Paolo Mrcellini fue uno de los caballeros romanos dotados con suntuosas ropas por el papa Eugenio IV; y, el 3 de septiembre de 1463, dice: Oddo Marcellini, canónigo de la basílica de San Pedro murió. Ughelli, de Corrado Marcellini, quien fue transferido del Obispado de Montefeltro al de Terracina, habla en Italia, lib. 3. Placa en la Iglesia de las SS. Apóstoles Dicho Corrado, obispo de Terracina, de 1489
