Antichissima e nobilissima famiglia di Fano, la quale è, però, originaria di Gubbio, detta Marcolini o Marcolino, della quale se ne ha memoria, sin dal 950, con un Pier Maria, vivente, appunto, in Gubbio. Nel 1280, un Marcolino, perché ghibellino, fu cacciato con tutta la sua discendenza, e, poco dopo, nella persona di suo figlio Ranieri-Peruzzo e figli, venne a stabilirsi in Fano, ove, ben presto, furono ammessi al Nobile Consiglio e perciò tra i Nobili Fanesi. Lenzolo, vivente nel 1367, fu più volte ambasciatore per i Malatesta Signori di Fano; Pietro, vivente nel 1420, fu consigliere; Giovanni, vivente nel 1444, fu un insigne teologo e, poi, vescovo di Nocera; Francesco, nel 1470, divenne Gonfaloniere e Capitano delle truppe, e, insieme al fratello Galeotto, fondò il convento di S. Maria fuori le Mura; Matteo, vivente nel 1450, fu dottore di legge e consigliere. Ebbe, quest'ultimo, due figli: Ludovico e Matteo.
