Sendo M. o patronímico de Marcos são muitas as famílias que usam este nome, hoje apelido, por serem diversas as origens que tevem não sòmente em Portugal, mas na Espanha, de onde os Marquez também cá passaram, aportuguesando o apelido. A António M. de Oliveira, cônsul em Antuérpia, concedeu o Imperador Carlos V, em 24 de Abril de 1545, as seguintes armas: Cortado, o primeiro de ouro com uma águia estendida de negro, armada de vermelho; o segundo de vermelho, com uma vila com seus muros e torres com ameias, tudo de prata, assente em um rio do mesmo. Timbre: a águia do escudo. Outros, de Espanha, usam tanto neste país como em Portugal: De azul, com um castelo de prata, ladeado por duas chaves adossadas de ouro, os seus palhetões para baixo.
