Famiglia originaria dell'isola di Capri. Nobile in Provenza e Capri. Tra i suoi possedimenti si ricordano le Baronie di Acerno, Altamura, Arielli, Bagnuolo ed altre; i Contadi di Anglone nel 1378; quello di Minervino nel 1375; e quello di Santagata. S'imparentò con molte illustri famiglie tra le quali si citano per brevità solamente quelle degli Artus, dei Carbone e dei Forbin. I personaggi più illustri della famiglia furono: Giacomo Tesoriere di Giovanna I, che edificò il Monastero di s. Giacomo nell'Isola di Capri, acquistò tutti i feudi della famiglia, e fu grande e potente. Come subitaneamente innalzò la sua casa, con la stessa celertà cadde nelle estrema miseria. La regina Giovanna, avendo favorito l'Antipapa Clemente VII ad istigazione di Nicolò Spinelli, fu spogliata del regno dal legittimo Papa Urbano V, e ne fu investito Carlo di Durazzo, il quale conquistatolo, privò Giacomo delle sue ricchezze.
