Familia muy antigua y muy noble, originaria de Génova, donde disfrutaba de la oficina principal de la República, ya que, el dogado Boemondo Marino, era cónsul en 1146. Después de él, Pileo y Domenico fueron arzobispos en casa, el primero en el siglo. XV, el segundo en el siguiente. Giovan-Paolo fue el jefe de veinticuatro embajadores que, en 1499, los genoveses enviaron a Luis XII, rey de Francia. Una rama de esta ilustre familia, con muchas riquezas, bajo Federico II, pasó a Sicilia, donde se convirtió en el propietario de numerosos feudos y censos de la Propiedad Real del Estado de Messina. No diremos nada sobre las grandes cargas ocupadas en esa república, solo nos detenemos en un Alessio, que reside en Palermo, un Antonio, que reside en Noto, un Uberto, que reside en Messina; todos personajes muy relevantes bajo el emperador mencionado, y que eran cepas de tres familias
