Questa nobile famiglia pare sia passata da Milano in Palermo, da dove si trasferì nella città di Sciacca, nella quale città occupò sempre le cariche di capitano di giustizia e senatore. Il primo di cui abbiamo notizie sicure è un Domenico Arone insignito a 20 gennaio 1656 del titolo di barone di Valentino. Un Corrado Arone, fu il primo barone di Bertolino o Mezzocatuso, in famiglia Arone, per la premorienza del fratello Michele, a cui spettava come figlio primogenito di Crispina Tagliavia. Fu Corrado padre di Francesco che fu investito di Bertolino a 1 luglio 1729 e di tre parti di Giardinello a 6 dicembre 1754, morì a 9 dicembre 1778 lasciando, fra gli altri figli, Giuseppe che, come primogenito, otteneva a 7 dicembre 1779 investitura del feudo di Mezzocatuso o Bertolino. Morto Giuseppe gli succedeva il figlio primogenito Francesco, per la cui morte, senza figli, succedeva nel feudo di
