Antica ed assai nobile famiglia campana, con residenza nella città di Capua, ove era annoverata tra le principali casate di antica nobiltà, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Il nucleo originario della famiglia, nel XV secolo, passò a risiedere in Sicilia. Secondo quanto ci viene tramandato, il primo illustre membro in Sicilia fu un Riccardo, creato Capitano di Randazzo da Re Alfonso, nel 1416. Il di lui figlio Manfredo, dopo molti servigi al medesimo Re, ebbe lo stesso ufficio nel 1433 e fu poi promosso nell'ufficio di pubblico Tabellione. Nacque da Manfredo Lodovico, dottor di legge, che fu tre volte Giudice della Città di Catania e che prese per moglie la figlia di Giacomo Nardizone, cavaliere, che fu diverse volte Capitano di Catania negli anni 1475, 1479, e 1487.
