Apellido de origen portugués, que estuvo en la conquista de Tenerife. Desciende de Gil M., natural de Carrapateira, feligresía de la Bordeira, concejo de Aljezur, en Lagos (Portugal). Fue poblador de la isla de Tenerife obteniendo repartimientos de tierras del primer Adelantado Don Alonso Fernández de Lugo, el 18 de octubre de 1503. Gil M. contrajo matrimonio con Constanza Antonia Alonso, estableciéndose en la ciudad de San Cristóbal de La Laguna, donde vivián el año 1514. Testó ante Vallejo el 24 de febrero de 1516 y, ante Juan Márquez, el 20 de septiembre, dejando tres hijos: Benito M., que estuvo desposado con Juana Bautista Núñez Gallegos, y fueron padres de Magdalena M., que contrajo nupcias en la Parroquia de la Concepción de La Laguna el 6 de marzo de 1603, con Gaspar Simón, de cuyo matrimonio desciende la Casa de Franco de Castilla en Tenerife, y por ella las de
