Assai antico ed illustre casato veneziano, detto Martinengo Delle Palle o Martinengo Dalle Palle, il cui capostipite vuolsi sia quel Leonardo II (* 1440 ca - 1484), condottiero e figlio postumo secondogenito di quel Leonardo I, abbiatico di Prevosto, esponente della nobile famiglia Martinengo da Barco. Il predicato "Dalle Palle" o "Delle Palle" fu, infatti, dato a questo ramo dalla ubicazione del palazzo costruito sul "Campo" dove prima si faceva il gioco della palla. Da Leonardo II, che fu condottiero sotto la repubblica Veneta e che combattè nella guerra di Ferrara contro il Duca di Calabria nel 1483, e da sua moglie Battistina, figlia naturale del celebre condottiero Gentile da Leonessa, la quale, inoltre, gli portò in eredità una porzione della Signoria di Sanguinetto, pervennero: Giovanni Antonio, capitano d'armata in Oriente contro il sultano Solimano; Battista I, che, al servizio della Repubblica Veneta per 32 anni si distinse quale capitano
