La famiglia è originaria di Pescia ed ebbe possedimenti in Colle Val d'Elsa. Il 30 gennaio 1845 quella comunità proponeva che venissero ascritti alla sua nobiltà civica il notaio regio dott. Francesco, l'avv. Luigi, commesso nella R. Segreteria di Stato, e Domenico, ragioniere dello spedale di Pescia, fratelli e figli di Raffaello. Constatata nei propositi la distinta condizione e i meriti sufficienti, il Granduca ne ordinò la richiesta iscrizione con decreto del 18 aprile dello stesso anno. Nel 1876 Buonamico, di Domenico, ottenne l'autorizzazione ad aggiungere il cognome Mancini. Fu costume delle più antiche famiglie, le quali dopo la caduta del Romano Imperio, in quella inondatione de' Barbari, havendo i loro cognomi, sicome gli studi, e altre cose belle smarrito e restati solo con semplici nomi, trarre di nuovo i loro cognomi, e il loro casato da' nomi proprii paterni, e de' maggiori.
