La famiglia Martinuccia, originaria di Genova, si trasferì in Sardegna in Alghero nella prima metà del secolo XVII con un Francesco, appaltatore del commercio del grano. Egli sposò una Ferret e nel 1639 ottenne il cavalierato ereditario. Nel 1640 suo figlio Agostino ebbe la cittadinanza sarda e nel 1643 la nobiltà; nello stesso anno fu ammesso allo stamento militare durante il parlamento Avellano. La famiglia in seguito accumulò un notevole patrimonio e non si ebbero più aggiornamenti araldici dal secolo XVIII. Altra antica e nobile famiglia era originaria di Pisa. Negli atti di archivio si trovano scarsissime notizie su questa casata, solo il blasone e il motto sono riportati nei testi storici. La presenza dell'arma e del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia Martinuccia ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta dalla casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che
