Ancient and very noble Calabrian family, known as Marzana or Marzano, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has spread, over the centuries, in different regions of the World. The stories of the Kingdom of Naples tell about this family since the time of the Norman princes (1180), under the dominion of which Guglielmo was lord of Marzano, from which the family took its name. Many knights of this lineage fought with Godfrey of Bouillon for the conquest of the Holy Land and, in the book of Emperor Frederick II, the M. are counted among the powerful barons of the kingdom. In 1246 they rebelled against Frederick and, together with Sanseverino family and the Fasanella family, took part in the famous conspiracy of Capaccio against the person or the status of that emperor. Later, in 1244, always with the same allied families, they took up arms in favor of the Church
