Las historias del reino de Nápoles comienzan a tomar la palabra de los marzanes, a menudo llamados marzanes, desde los tiempos de los príncipes normandos (1180), bajo cuyo dominio, un William era señor de Marzano, de donde la familia tomó su nombre.
