Angiolo di Michele Marzi, notaro, nativo di S. Gimignano, cominciò la sua carriera come cancelliere di Pier Soderini, ma dopo la cacciata di questa famiglia si pose al servizio dei Medici, e nel 1519 fu ascritto alla cittadinanza fiorentina coi figli di Ser Vincenzo suo fratello. Rimasto vedovo, si dedicò alla carriera ecclesiastica, e nel 1529 fu creato Vescovo di Assisi. Caduta la Repubblica, fu segretario del Duca Alessandro, indi di Cosimo I, che nel 1537 gli accordò di potere aggiungere al proprio cognome quello dei Medici, e di aggiungere nella sua arma gentilizia una delle palle medicee. I discendenti di suo fratello furono onorati di tutte le primarie cariche civile e militari dello stato, ed ebbero un Arciv. di Firenze, un generale, diversi senatori e cavalieri. Il cognome dei Marzi-Medici si estinse nel Cav. Amerigo del Cav. Vincenzo morto nel 1824, benchè sia di questa stessa famiglia il March.
