La famiglia Masbel, è stimata da Diego di Sangil, per una delle più antiche famiglie di Catalogna, e celebra Martin Perez Signore di Masbell, Castello vicino Roxas, e Secretario del Rè don Giaime nel 1310, Guglielmo Masbel Maestro di Cavalli del Rè Pietro quarto d'Aragona. Diego Perez de Masbel Cortiero Maggiore del Rè Alfonzo, ed Alvaro de Masbel fù Camariero della Regina Germana. Giaieme Masbel, e Lamfredo Masbel , gentil'uomini di molto valore, servirono in molti occasioni militari al Rè Giaime. Bartolomeo de M. descendente de' predetti, e figlio di Martino di Masbel , e di Maria di Monroidon di Barcellona venne in Sicilia con carico di Capitan di Fantaria nel reggimento del dell'Imperador Carlo quinto nel 1535, al quale con l'arte militare molt'anni haveva servito; si casò perciò in Palermo, con Giovanna figlia di don Bernardino di Termine Baron di Pirripairi, ed essendo cavalier virtuoso fù nel 1538 promosso
