Por diploma de 22 de setembro 1503, Guido Ubaldo O duque de Urbino, criando um cavaleiro da aura Martino di Lorenzo da Sansepolcro (Arezzo), concedeu a ele e seus sucessores perpetuamente o senhorio da Massetta com as vilas de Pagno, Tivo e Casalecchio, senhorio que mais tarde foi exercido pela família Masetta com título emital. Dessa investidura surgiu o costume de adicionar o sufixo "della Masetta" ou "della Massa" ao nome da família; de fato, com o tempo, esse costume se tornou tão geral que o predicado feudal acabou substituindo o sobrenome, e uma sentença da corte de Forlì foi exigida em 31 de julho. 1909 e outro de Brescia em 20 de outubro. a seguir para autorizar o uso do sobrenome duplo no lugar apenas do último. Em 1814, após a restauração do governo papal, o feudo de Massa e seus anexos estava na posse dos condes Carlo Francesco,
