Alte und sehr adelige Familie wahrscheinlich venezianischen Ursprungs, die nach Nizza zog, wo sie mit dem Titel Consignori di Castelnuovo in der Landschaft von Nizza geschmückt wurde. Im Laufe der Jahrhunderte hat sich die Familie in verschiedene Regionen des italienischen Territoriums ausgebreitet. Es wird angenommen, dass der Ursprung dieses Nachnamens auf den mittelalterlichen Namen Masinus zurückzuführen ist, eine Aphereseform des Namens Thomasus. Wir haben ein Beispiel für diese Verwendung im Mailänder Gebiet im Jahr 1200 in einer Urkunde von 1246, die in der Ambrosianischen Bibliothek aufbewahrt wird, die wir lesen : "Qui requiri debent et hi sunt requirements: in primis Martinus de Rosa et ... ...Beltramus et Masinus de Sozanore, Iacobus filius Bonomii,...
