Antichissima, ed una di quelle che abitarono nel primo cerchio. Il primitivo suo nome era Catellini che poi cambiò in quello Da Castiglione per la signoria che ebbe sul castello di Cercina. Messer Alberto fu uno dei senatori della repubblica nel 1197, e Lancia, valoroso condottiero di parte ghibellina, si trovò alla battaglia dell'Arbia, e poi nel 1268 fu bandito dalla città. Stolto intervenne alla pace del Cardinale Latino nel 1280. Nel 1462 ottenne il priorato che fino al 1527 per sei volte sortì nella famiglia. Cosimo di Vieri fu senatore nel 1622, e Vieri di lui figlio fu consigliere di stato di Ferdinando II e Cosimo III da cui fu fatto marchese di Cavacurta e Binaga. Bernardino, ammiraglio delle galee di papa Calisto III, fu per le sue benemerenze investito di vari castelli nella Marca d'Ancona, e Domenico, minore osservante, fu elevato all'onore degli altari col titolo di beato.
