Antica ed assai nobile famiglia di Perugia, originariamente detta Matarazzo, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Un ramo si stabilì a Velletri ed un altro ramo si era trasferito a Procida e poi, dall'isola, a Castellabate, ove ebbe feudi e, per numerose generazioni, esercitò diritti di vassallaggio su varie borgate del Cilento. Fra gli uomini che maggiormente si distinsero, ricordiamo: il notaio Nicola, tra i capi della rivolta del Cilento nel 1345; Tiberio, dottore in l'una e l'altra legge, il quale creato cavaliere aurato dall'Imperatore Carlo V, il 16 febbraio 1536. Nel 1580 Cornelia Pasca, vedova di Giovanni Andrea M., acquistò i feudi di Prignano, Melito e Puglisi per sé e per gli eredi del defunto marito, con investitura del 10 aprile di detto anno, confermata con R. Assenso 01-IX-1610. Il ramo della famiglia che mutò la propria cognominizzazione in Materazzi è quello che acquistò, in persona
