Antica ed assai nobile famiglia ritenuta di origine albanese scritta Matranga, Matranca, Matrancha ... la quale possedette il diritto del grano uno sui porti e caricatori del regno. Notiamo un Giuseppe fu giudice pretoriano di Palermo nel 1753-54 e giudice del Concistoro negli anni 1761-62-63 ed un Niccolò fu giudice pretoriano di Palermo nel 1765-66. Giovanni Matrancha ò Matracchia Epiroto servì molt'anni con l'arte militare, il Rè Martino dal quale in ricompenza de' suoi serviggi, hebbe il territorio di Morgana non lunge Calascibetta, e l'ufficio di Provisore de' Regij fabrici della Città di Castrogiovanni. Per il che nel 1391, si casò nella medesma Città con Giacopina di Leto nobile donzella, con la quale procreò Giacomo, e Pietro, ch'ambedue acquistarono un grosso tenitorio chiamato il Marcato di Mulegi, lasciatogli d'Antonio d'Ansisa loro materno parente del 1496 conforme si legge nel testamento del medesmo Antonio negl'atti di notar Lorenzo di Noto
