Antica famiglia, conosciuta come Matteoli o Mattioli, originaria di Castello di Serravalle, giurisdizione della Rep. di S. Marino, anticamente detta "dei benedetti". La prima persona di cui si ha memoria è Giovanni, ricordato nell'atto notarile di Franco Maria della Fonte del 9 novembre 1606, che riguarda il suo nipote Matteo, figlio di Giacomo, dal cui diminutivo i discendenti presero il nome di "Mateoli de Serravalle". Giovanni (1570) ebbe Giacomo (1600), che andò a stabilirsi a Rimini. Il figlio di lui Giovanni (1625), ebbe Vittorio (1678), valente medico fisico, da questi nacque Giovanni (1716) Gonfaloniere di Giustizia in Rimini, marito della c.ssa Vittoria Nardini di S. Leo. Pietro (1771), suo figlio, sposò la c.ssa Eleonora Sartoni, ultima di sua casa che trasmise ai figli il titolo comitale; egli fu aggregato con i suoi discendenti al patriziato di Rimini ed a quello della Repubblica di S.Marino.
