Ancient family, known as Matteoli or Mattioli, originally from Castello di Serravalle, jurisdiction of the Rep. Of S. Marino, formerly called "dei benedetti". The first person to be remembered is Giovanni, mentioned in the notarial deed of Franco Maria della Fonte of 9 November 1606, which concerns his nephew Matteo, son of Giacomo, from whose diminutive the descendants took the name of "Mateoli de Serravalle ". Giovanni (1570) had Giacomo (1600), who went to settle in Rimini. His son Giovanni (1625), had Vittorio (1678), a talented physician, from these Giovanni (1716) Gonfaloniere di Giustizia in Rimini was born, husband of the c.ssa Vittoria Nardini of S. Leo. Pietro (1771), his son, married c.ssa Eleonora Sartoni, the last of his home who passed on the title to his children; he was aggregated with his descendants to the patriciate of Rimini and to that of the Republic of S.
