Très illustre maison de la Bretagne, d'une haute antiquité, dont les premiers auteurs connus sont: Radulphe, chevalier, l'un des exécuteurs testamentaires de Geoffroi de Chateaubriant en 1262; Thèbaut, vivant en 1380, épouse la dame de Montmartin; Jean, petit-fils des précédents, père de Gilles, marié vers 1513 à Jeanne de Beaucours, came du Brossay, auteur des seigneurs du Brossay; de Thébaut, marié à Bertranne du Val, auteur des seigneurs de Villeneuve. Gilles, maître d'hôtel du duc en 1480; Jean, évêque de Dol, mort en 1557 et enterré à Angers; Jean, seigneur de Montmartin, maréchal de camp en 1591, gouverneur de Vitré, célèbre capitaine royaliste, auteur de mémoires sur la Ligue en Bretagne; deux chevaliers de l'ordre en 1591 et 1619; deux députés des États royalistes de Rennes, vers Henri IV en 1595. La branche de Villeneuve a produit un conseiller au parlement en 1776.
