Cette maison, connue dès l'an 1088, occupe un des premiers rangs dans la noblesse du Limousin, non seulement par son ancienneté, ses services à l'Etat dans l'armée et dans l'Eglise, à laquelle elle a donné trois évêques, et également par ses alliances qui l'ont souvent rattachée à notre province. Ce fut un de ses membres, Me Gérald, qui fonda le monastère des religieuses Dominicaines de Saint-Pardoux-la-Rivière, arrondissement de Nontron, où il choisit sa sépulture. Dans le Nobiliaire du Limousin, de Nadaud, il est dit que Bernard, frère du précédent, était, en 1292 et 1299, abbé de Brantôme. Un Hélie, qualifié damoiseau en 1340, était seigneur de Connezac, diocèse de Périgueux. Une branche avait sa résidence au Vieux-Mareuil, en Périgord.
