Ses membres sont qualifiés des seigneurs de Ribes, de St-Paulet, de l'Esperon, d'Ouïdes, de Séjallières, de Rochefort, barons d'Agrain, etc. On trouve le nom de cette maison diversement écrit Maurel ou Morel. Noble Guillaume Maurel ou de Maurel (1386-1423), épousa Catherine des Roays, fille de Robert Roays damoiseau et de Miracle Boyer de la Salvetat. Autre Guillaume Maurel seigneur de Ribes, s'allia à Louise de Cayres qui lui apporta entre autres terres, celles d'Agrain et d'Ouïdes. Il transige en cette qualité le 15 janvier 1492, avec Guillaume de Cayres seigneur d'Entraigue son beau-frère. Reymond Maurel ou Morel son fils, seigneur de Ribes, St-Paulet, l'Esperon, coseigneur d'Agrain (1497-1510), était possessionné à Chalhons près St-Agrève et avait pour femme Isabelle de Laulanhier. Eteinte de 1507 à 1515 dans les Boucherd du Crouzet et les de Mezeyrac. Armes de cette famille: D'azur, à quatre lionceaux d'or.
