Familia muy antigua y famosa que, en nombre de Flaminio Rossi, cuenta con orígenes muy remotos en Volterra. Fue precisamente esta familia, además, la que le dio a la Iglesia el pontífice Lino, uno de los primeros discípulos de San Pedro, que luego se relacionó con las principales familias de Roma, desde donde, posteriormente, pasó a Venecia. De Mugnos, sabemos que la familia se instaló en la ciudad de Messina con un Mauro, cuyos hijos elogiaron a la realeza siciliana de manera encomiable, con el fin de obtener un castillo y feudos como recompensa, hacia el siglo XIV.
