D'origine calabrese decorata dal re Ferdinando I d'Aragona nel 1463 della regia familiarità, con riconoscimento dello stemma gentilizio. Passata da Cosenza a Napoli si divise in due rami. Il primogenito decorato nel 1726 dall'imperatore Carlo VI del titolo di duca infisso in seguito sul feudo di Castelgaragnone, venne nel 1746 aggregato al patriziato di Bari, nel 1792 alla nobiltà di Lucera e, nel 1805, ascritto al Registro delle Piazze Chiuse del regno. Il ramo secondogenito fu anche nel 1726 addì 11 maggio, dallo stesso imperatore Carlo VI, insignito del titolo di marchese in persona di Francesco, titolo che venne incardinato sul feudo di Celenza Valfortotre venuto in possesso della famiglia nel 1706.
