Nobile famiglia lucchese, originaria da Massarosa, che ottenne la cittadinanza con Antonio, di Cipriano, nel 1525. Dette alla Repubblica numerosi Anziani e Gonfalonieri, fra i quali Mauro che coprì la suprema magistratura cinque volte dal 1529 al 1538, e Francesco Maria, ambasciatore nel 1791 all'imper. Leopoldo II. Ebbe nel secolo XVII eruditi ecclesiastici con Giovani, priore dei SS. Paolino e Donato, e con Pier Filippo dell'Ordine di Gesù. La fam., iscritta nel Libro d'Oro del 1628 della Repubblica Lucchese, si estinse in Fabio Domenico, di Francesco, il 2 marzo 1735, che adottò Tommaso, di Stefano Nieri e marito di Caterina, sua figlia, con l'obbligo di assumere il suo cognome. Loro figlio fu Francesco che, non avendo successione, nominò erede Antonio di G.B. Mansi, con lo stesso obbligo di prendere il solo cognome.
