Antica ed assai nobile famiglia di Chieri, le cui prime memorie risalgono ad un Giacomo, fiorente nel 1263, passata a risiedete in Asti, in Casale ed in Rivoli. Secondo quanto riporta Antonio Manno, nel suo pregevole "Blasonario Subalpino", i Masset d’Yverdun (Vaud), signori di Orges, discenderebbero proprio dal ramo dei Mazzetti passato in Rivoli. In ogni modo, la famiglia risulta divisa in diverse linee. Quella detta di Saluggia, cui appartenne Giovanni del fu Domenico che, nel 1440, acquistò dai Montiglio parte di Saluggia e, da Andreetta Tara, moglie di Pietro Maria Isnardi, parte di Frinco, con investitura del Duca di Milano (1442). In tempi meno remoti si ricorda Paolo Battista Francesco Michele Mattia (Torino, S.Dalmazzo, 21 settembre 1770 - Torino, S. Di nero, alle tre mazze d'argento. Lo scudo cimato da un cardo di 3 rami inserito in un anello d'oro, il tutto cimato da una corona di marchese sostenente una fenice d'argento sulla sua immortalità di rosso. Sostegni: due liocorni con i corni legati da un nastro di rosso all'anello che cingie la pianta di cardo; ciascun liocorno reca sulla criniera un nastro svolazzante con il motto "ME TIENT" che allude all'anello e significa mi tiene, cioè mi impegno per un dato fine. Sopra il cardo un altro nastro con il motto "SOUVENIR M'EN DOIT" che signofica mi si dovrà ricordare.
