Família, de nobreza clara e antiga, originária da Toscana. As primeiras memórias, relacionadas a essa família, remontam a 1159, com um Drudo, de Albertino Mazzi. Em 1458, a família se dotou de uma capela na igreja de S. Francesco e, no mesmo período, começou a deixar o sobrenome Mazzi mudando para o de Quarantini, de um Quarantino vivo por volta de 1400. Mazio, filho do mencionado Quarantino, foi inscrito entre os anciãos de Faenza. Outro Quarantino e um Lattanzio, filhos de Francesco, em 1592 vestiram o vestido dos Cavaleiros de S. Stefano di Toscana. Outro ramo. Família patrícia e muito poderosa em casa, desde 1306. Entre os membros que mais a ilustraram, lembramos: Francesco, podestà de Reggio-Emilia, em 1613; Antonio, doutor em "utroque jure", morando em 1634; Alexander, teólogo e filósofo, vivendo em 1656; Saverio, embaixador em vários tribunais, italiano e europeu, vivendo em 1723; Alberto, cânone e pronunciador apostólico,
