The family, originally from Imola, is divided into various branches. At the beginning of the 19th century, the lawyer Carlo, a distinguished jurist, moved to Bologna, where during the period of the Italian Kingdom he held high positions. Napoleon I, with letters patent, dated from Compiegne 11 September 1811, conferred on him the title of Baron, transmittable to his descendants by order of primogeniture. He married Countess Marianna Gamberini d'Imola. From this marriage Francesco was born, an eminent scholar of medical sciences. In 1835, he moved to Sinigallia and there married Margherita Cagnaroni Corraducci from Macerata. From this marriage Carlo was born, who was later a member of the National Government Council, established in 1859; then he became judge of the courts of Ferrara and Bologna.
