Si ritiene questa così nobile e antica Casa già Mazzoli ora Manzoli, derivare, da Cremona la di cui arma simile a quella di tale città, vedendosi anche usata in Bologna dalla comagnia Militare de' Lombardi, nella cui Provincia, e situata della città, che sono due Fascie nere in campo d'argento, col Capo dello scudo rosso, questa, acquistati molti beni a S. Giovanni in Triario, ottenne anche il Castello San Martino in Soverzano, oggidì sua Contea, e Marchesato che per esser tempo posseduto da' Soggetti di questa Casa, ha reso il nome da lei; ha avuto gran parte nel Governo della Città, essendo fazionaria de' Duchi di Milano, è stata del Consiglio, e Senatoria, e ha fatto parentadi molto nobili fra gl'altri con la Casa Sforza, per lo che un ramo di quella nobilissima stirpe fù inserto in questa, poichè Giacomo Leonardo del figliuolo del Co. Marco Sforfza Co. di Codignola
