Antica famiglia bresciana le cui memorie certe risalgono al secolo XIV. E' celebre nella storia di Brescia un Giacomo che fu uno dei valorosi congiurati che nel marzo 1426 si misero a capo dei loro concittadini per cacciare l'odiata signoria di Filippo Maria Visconti e fu nel 1438 inviato presso Francesco Sforza, allora al servizio di Venezia, a sollecitare l'aiuto per la città assediata da Nicolò Piccinino. Durante quel memorabile assedio Lorenzo fu nominato uno dei quaranta Connestabili alle porte ed alle mura della città e, con Giovanni suo parente, fu fatto prigioniero durante un assalto. Il Giacomo, già nominato, che nel 1440, fu provveditore a Palazzolo e nel 1442, Podestà degli Orzi, è il sicuro capostipite della famiglia; dopo di lui, morto nel 1469, essa si divide in due rami coi suoi figli Gerardo e Andrea.
