Família originária de Nápoles. Com um privilégio real de 14 de fevereiro de 1733, foi decorada com o título de príncipe, depois fixada com um decreto da R. Camera della Sommaria de 31 de março de 1762 em seu feudo de Marzano. O feudo de Rocca Monfina em Terra di Lavoro também era dono dessa família, que passou sob o título de Barão à família Catemario, juntamente com a do duque de Quadri.
