Le prime notizie di questa famiglia furlana risalgono ad un Odorico del Decano di Tolmezzo che sugli ultimi del trecento era governatore dell'Abazzia di Moggio. Il figlio di lui Nicolò passato in Udine ad esercitare l'arte notarile, vi fu fatto cancelliere del Comune, carica che tenne per 57 anni e cioè fino alla sua morte, avvenuta nel 1482. Il figlio Gian Francesco ottenne le prime cariche cittadine e nel 1517 fu ascritto, coi suoi discendenti, alla nobiltà udinese. Da lui nacque il celebre Tiberio, n. 3 agosto 1509, dc. il 3 febbraio 1582, che, dedicatosi agli studi giuridici, ottenne una cattedra allo studio padovano, e vi salì in tanto onore e fama, che da tutta l'Europa accorrevano gli studiosi ad ascoltarne la faconda parola. A compenso delle sue straordinarie benemerenze negli studi, Pietro duca gi Czernovitz, lo creò cavaliere di S. Giorgio e conte palatino con diploma dato a Padova
