Antica famiglia milanese, à dato alla patria una lunga serie di consoli, di decurioni e di legati. Sino dal 1277 figurava fra le duecento case patrizie, che avevano il diritto di eleggere gli ordinarii dlela Metropolitana. Celebre fu quel Gian Giacomo detto il Medeghino, l'ardito castellano di Musso, che vinse Spagnuoli, Svizzeri, Sforzeschi, s'insignorì di tutto il paese circonstante ai laghi di Como e di Lecco, della Brianza e della valle dell'Ossola, battè moneta, e tanto timore incusse per le su temerarie imprese, da costringere i suoi potenti nemici a chiedergli la pace, conchiusa poi il 13 Feb. 1532 mediante tante indennità, tra cui il feudo di Melegano o Marignano eretto in marchesato il 1 marzo 1532. Il fratello di lui, Giovan Angelo cinse la tiara col nome di Pio IV. L'Imperatore Francesco I con sovrana risoluzione 21 Novembre 1816 confermò a questa famiglia l'antica nobiltà col titolo di marchese

D'oro a cinque palle di rosso, 2 , 2 e 1, accompagnate in capo da una palla più grossa d'azzurro, caricata di tre gigli d'oro, 2 e 1. Cimiero: Un falcone al naturale tenente nel suo becco d'oro un anello dello stesso, e nella sua zampa destra levata un listello d'argento in cui si legge la parola Semper in lettere majuscole di nero.
